Supporting Our Native Students

The following relays information on an important opportunity that directly supports our students of Native American heritage.

As a school district committed to providing enriching educational experiences, we recognize the significance of embracing and supporting the diverse backgrounds of all our students. In our continuous effort to secure resources that can enhance the educational journey of our Native students, we kindly ask families with Native ancestry to complete the Office of Indian Education (OIE) Form 506.

 Why is this important?

The information collected through Form 506 plays a critical role in our district’s eligibility for federal funding under the Title VI Indian Education Formula Grant Program. This funding is instrumental in developing and maintaining programs that support the unique educational and culturally related academic needs of American Indians and Alaska Natives.

 What does this mean for our students?

By securing these funds, our district can offer additional support to our American Indian and Alaska Native students. Some allowable activities include:

  • Purchasing culturally relevant curriculum and resources;
  • Academic tutoring and support services tailored to our Native students;
  • Cultural enrichment activities that promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of Native heritage; and
  • Professional development for staff to effectively address the needs of Native students.

How can you help?

  • Complete the Form: If your family has Native American, American Indian, or Alaska Native heritage, please complete the OIE Form 506. Even if you have filled out this form in previous years, an annual update ensures our records accurately reflect our community. Please note: a completed form is required for each student.
  • Spread the Word: Share this message with other families who may also have Native ancestry and encourage their participation. Let them know to reach out to Alicia Jacob if they have any questions.

Privacy Assurance: Please be assured that all information provided is kept confidential and used solely for the purpose of securing essential educational funding.

Deadline: We kindly ask that you submit the completed form to either your child’s school or to the district office by February 28th, ensuring our district remains eligible for these critical resources.
