Transportation News for September 12 - 16

Total Road Closure will Impact District Buses

As the beginning of the school year progresses, the following is an update from the Transportation Department.

The District has been informed by the City of Selah that there will be a total closure of West Fremont Avenue from Speyers to N. 4th Street from Monday, September 12 through Friday, September 16.  The closure is due to wastewater collection system improvements.  This will necessitate detours for our community and Selah School District buses during these days.

The City of Selah has created a suggested detour route.  Our District buses will be using a different detour route in order to move students from John Campbell Primary to Selah Intermediate School both in the morning and afternoon.  We are asking for the community’s patience and enhanced safe driving practices in Selah neighborhoods as everyone will experience delays.  Please see here for the City of Selah’s communication and detour map for your reference.

Both the road closure and the addition of preschool students beginning classes on September 12, will impact the District’s pick-up and drop-off times during the identified days.  Again, thank you in advance for your patience and understanding and for relaying the information to your child that their bus might pick them up a few minutes later in the morning and that afternoon drop-offs may also be delayed.

The District does ask parents who pick up their students at any of Selah's schools, either on foot or by vehicle, to consider doing so 8-15 minutes after the final bell, so buses have time to depart each campus with less pedestrian and vehicle traffic with which to compete.

As always, if you are concerned about a late pick-up or drop-off that is 5 minutes or more beyond the posted times, feel free to call the Selah School District Transportation Department at 509-698-8330.
