    Mattson Runs Away with State-Cross-Country Coaching Honor

    Throughout his life, Kelly Mattson has always been on the run—a Kelly Mattson has been named the Girls' 2A State of Washington Cross-Country Coach of the Year. standout cross-country and track star at Highland High School and varsity runner at Central Washington University.  So, it is only fitting that Mattson has run away with the 2016 Girls’ 2A State of Washington Cross-Country Coach of the Year honor!  In earning the honor, Mattson coached the Selah High School Girls’ Cross-Country Team as they ran away with the 2A State Title this past November. 

    Mattson, an English/Language Arts teacher at Selah Middle School, came to the Selah School District in 2007, and began coaching with the Selah High School track program.  In 2011, Mattson joined long-time Selah High School Cross-Country Coach Rick Becker, where they have remained a coaching tandem with successful Girls’ and Boys’ Cross-Country Programs.  Prior to his Selah coaching experience, Mattson was a long-time cross-country and track coach with the Highland School District.
