DECA Students Earn National Recognition!

Congratulations to the four Mouseketeers who have recently returned from the happiest place on Earth after representing Selah High School at the DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC) held in Orlando, Florida.  Selah had three students qualify to compete in the international contest; senior, Natalie Keller; junior, Whit Peters; and freshman, Mallory Keller.  Selah’s student contingent was advised by teacher, Kasey Benjamin

During the competition, each Selah competitor participated against the top emerging entrepreneur leaders in the world in their respective event categories representative of careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.  All three Selah participants contributed top quality performances, which included Natalie Keller who became part of a very exclusive club of high school students by earning a prestigious DECA Glass award by placing third in the world in the contest category of Hotel and Lodging Management.  In earning a DECA Glass award, the competition ensues as each categorical event has 200 of the top students in the world that participate in first round presentations.  After the initial field of 200 participants deliver their performances, the judging panel then advances the top 20 competitors in each category to the final round of competition.  From the final round, the top three overall participants in each category receive the prestigious DECA Glass award.  In recent memory, Natalie is the first person from our region to receive DECA Glass.  Putting the honor in perspective, it was estimated that collectively 15,000 students attended the DECA ICDC event.

Congratulations to Selah’s four DECA Mouseketeers; Natalie Keller, Whit Peters, Mallory Keller, and teacher, Kasey Benjamin!
