SHS LifeSmarts Team Qualifies for National Contest!

Congratulations to the four-member Selah High School Lady Viking Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) LifeSmarts Knowledge Bowl Team!

Recently returning from Washington D.C., the squad of four sophomores, Hannah Christianson, Indiana Hilmes, Macie Ladd and captain, Hanna Rees, proved they were one of the top teams in the nation. Competing against 38 other groups, the quartet finished fourth overall. Also, Hannah Christianson placed fourth overall in her individual competitive category. The team is advised by Selah High School teacher, Michelle McCartney. Additionally, the girls will have the opportunity to soak up the sun later this summer as they use their knowledge and compete in another contest, the FCCLA National LifeSmarts event in San Diego.

LifeSmarts provides real-world education for students to learn about core consumer topics and develop critical thinking skills.  Competing in a variety of consumer related trivia categories, participants focus on key areas including Consumer Rights and Responsibilities, Environment, Health and Safety, Personal Finance, Technology and more.  Students must collaborate and think quickly in order to prove their knowledge.  The goal of LifeSmarts is to create consumer-savvy young people who will be well equipped for adult life in today’s complex, global marketplace.
