SHS Students Selected for Prestigious Scholarship!

Five Selah High School Students Receive Mollie Davis Scholarship

Selah High School had five students receive the Mollie Davis Scholarship this spring. This is huge! Over 900 students began the application process with 37 finally being selected to receive the scholarships.

The Selah High School Mollie Davis scholarship recipients include: Jade Carrasco, Trinity Oden, Izabelah Requena, McKenna Swindell, and Cooper Vick.

Carrasco plans to attend Whitworth University seeking a degree in athletic training; Oden is planning to attend the University of Portland to study accounting; Requena is attending Arizona State University to pursue business; Swindell will attend Grand Canyon University and pursue Elementary Special Education; and Vick is attending Gonzaga University to study business administration.

The Mollie Davis scholarship was created for its namesake Mollie Davis who passed away in November 2008, leaving an educational gift of over $20 million to the Yakima Valley and community to fund two and four-year college scholarships benefiting residents of Yakima County. The program awards up to $7,500 a year and up to $30,000 overall toward a Bachelor’s Degree and up to $3,500 a year toward an Associate’s Degree. The program is administered by the Yakima Rotary Trust. Since 2010, 450 scholarships valued at over $8.5 million have been awarded. Mollie Davis’ gift is truly making a difference for students in the community.

Congratulations to the Selah High School Mollie Davis scholarship recipients and to the other local high school students also receiving the scholarship.
