Even though it’s September, it’s a summer rewind as we still have some bragging to do about Selah students and their accomplishments!
The fields and gymnasiums might have been closed, but the Selah High School Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) LifeSmarts Knowledge Bowl team enjoyed the madness as they bested their competition on the way to being crowned National Champs during their organization's virtual summer competition!
On their way to earning the national knowledge bowl FCCLA championship, the five-member Viking Team of Tessa Fresco, Anna Tamblyn, Grace Erickson, Alexsandra Vargas and Olivia Gargaro, competed against the nation’s top 24 high school LifeSmarts teams representing different geographical regions across the country. The team is advised by teachers, Michelle McCartney and Shari Brink. In addition to earning top honors, one impressive feat for Selah contingent is there is no school size cut-off during competition, meaning the delegation competed against schools much larger.
While competing in the LifeSmarts Knowledge Bowl event, students must prove their competency in multiple content areas. The contest challenges participant knowledge across several topics including, Personal Finance, Consumer Rights and Responsibilities, Family, Career and Community Studies, Technology, Fashion and Housing Design, Health and Safety, Food Sciences and Nutrition, Early Childhood and Human Development, Environment, and Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation.
Congratulations to Selah’s FCCLA LifeSmarts Knowledge Bowl Team as they are now National Champs!
