SHS Teacher Named WA-ACTE New Teacher of the Year
Keeping Students and Athletes in the “Game,” Courtney Peart Named WA-ACTE “New Teacher of the Year”
Helping students and athletes stay on top of their “game,” Courtney Peart, a Selah High School Health Sciences teacher, has been recognized as the Washington Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) New Teacher of the Year. The Awards were announced during the Association’s Virtual Summer Conference in August.
The purpose of the award is to recognize new Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers who have made significant contributions toward innovative and unique CTE programs and who have shown a professional commitment early in their careers.
As school prepares to start, Peart is beginning her fifth year as a teacher and certified athletic trainer at Selah High School. Most recently, Peart taught the classes of Human Body Systems, Intro to Sports Medicine and Advanced Sports Medicine.
During her first year on staff at Selah High School, Peart began the Health Sciences Program from the ground up and has tripled the interest of the program since then. Also serving as the high school athletic trainer, Peart not only works with the athletes, she also provides authentic career experiences to her sports medicine students during sporting events. Additionally, Peart also serves as the Vice-President of the Health Science Career and Technical Educators for Washington State, where she has been an active board member for two years. Peart’s colleagues describe her as having a passion for providing her students with the best all-around learning experience possible with hands-on experiences, as well as utilizing in the moment learning and applicable technology.
Peart chose her educator and athletics career path because she wanted to instill the passion of sports medicine into young adults and introduce them to the career field that has been positive to her life.
Congratulations to Courtney Peart for being named the 2020 Washington Career and Technical Education New Teacher of the Year and for keeping Selah students and athletes on top of their game.
