Selah Delegation Visits Olympia to Lobby for Important Educational Issues
Selah School District representatives received an up-close look at Washington’s government in action as they visited the State Capital earlier this week as advocates for education.
Contributing as educational ambassadors during Washington’s current legislative session, Superintendent, Shane Backlund, led a five-person Selah delegation, which included Associate Superintendent, Chris Scacco, school board member and Legislative Representative, Kelliann Ergeson, and student board representatives, Charis Williams and Hannah Weeks. While in Olympia, the group met with legislatures from the 15th Legislative District, lobbied for important educational issues and toured the Capital campus.
Backlund said the Olympia visit demonstrates the significance of school leaders advocating for education.
“Educational advocacy at the legislative level is the responsibility of every school district and it is important because decisions affect us,” said Backlund. “Our student representatives from Selah did an amazing job sharing personal stories and advocating for important educational issues both locally and at the state level. It was a very productive day.”
