The "Blitz" was on for Selah Students!
The “Blitz” was on for Selah School District students as they celebrated their year-long Fuel Up to Play 60 (FUTP60) commitment during a trio of assemblies featuring a visit from Blitz, the Seattle Seahawks mascot, and an appearance by Sea Gal Kylie.
As part of the assemblies, students enjoyed interacting with Blitz as they were reminded of the importance of fueling their bodies with good nutrition and the importance of daily exercise. Both John Campbell and Selah Intermediate also received "12" man flags signed by Doug Baldwin.
This fall John Campbell Primary, Selah Intermediate and Selah Middle Schools were recipients of a grant from the FUTP60 Program. Fuel Up to Play 60 is the nation’s largest in-school nutrition and physical activity program launched by the National Dairy Council and National Football League to encourage youth to lead healthier lives. Locally FUTP60 is a partnership between the Seattle Seahawks and Dairy Farmers of Washington that promotes healthy eating and physical activity in Washington schools and empowers youth to take action to improve nutrition and physical activity at their campuses.
In Selah, the schools awarded funding have collaborated with the District’s Nutrition Services and physical education programs to develop opportunities focusing on nutrition and activity. Students have been participating in activities promoting fitness, in addition to learning about good nutritional habits. Also, at Selah Intermediate, fitness ambassadors encouraged students to sign a pledge to eat healthy and be active for 60 minutes each day. Additionally, throughout the yearlong campaign, Selah’s nutrition team has spearheaded an initiative focused on the importance of eating breakfast, including celebrating National Breakfast Week which featured new morning menu items, and the introduction of breakfast smoothies.
