In earning the recognition during the fall 2018 campaign, the varsity team, under the leadership of head coach, Scott Ditter, had a grade point average  of 3.312.

After a one-year hiatus in 2017, the Viking Football Program has returned atop the academic standings.  From 2012-2016 the team dominated the Scholastic Awards Program as it accumulated five consecutive Academic Championships at the 2A level.

The Washington State high school Scholastic Awards Program is sponsored by the WIAA, Dairy Farmers of Washington, and Les Schwab Tires.  Each athletic season the WIAA State Academic Championship is presented to the sport specific team with the highest grade point average in each high school division.  The team will be honored during the state championships in December.
