Selah High School Freshman Serves as Legislative Page
A Look at Government in Action
Selah High School Freshman, Timothy Mowery, had a good look at government in action after spending a week in Olympia serving as a page for the Washington State Senate. Mowery was sponsored by Sen. Curtis King of the 14th Legislative District.
While working in Washington’s Capitol, Mowery transported documents between offices, as well as delivered messages and mail. Additionally, pages spend time in the Senate chamber and attend page school to learn about parliamentary procedure and the legislative process. Students also draft their own bills and engage in a mock session.
“It was cool to see the teamwork inside the legislature,” said Mowery. “So many young people come together and help one another.”
