Middle School Students Make the Holidays Merry and Bright for Local Kids

Seasonal elves in Eloy Flores’ advisory class at Selah Middle School have done their part to make the holidays merry and bright for kids in the Yakima Valley.Students in Eloy Flores' advisory class at Selah Middle School collect items for Toys for Tots.

Since the beginning of November, Flores’ students have led a school-wide drive to collect items for Yakima’s Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots campaign.  The middle school student drive represented one of approximately 130 Toys for Tots drives in the valley this holiday season.  Toys collected from the middle school drive were coupled with the items from other local drives and distributed during Yakima’s Toys for Tots give-away this past weekend at the Yakima Fairgrounds in which over 8,000 children benefited—double the amount of kids from last year.  In its 69th year, the Toys for Tots campaign is an annual tradition by the Marines to bring a happy holiday to children and families.  In addition to collecting the toys for donation, Flores’ students enjoyed a classroom visit from a Marine representative expressing his gratitude to the students for helping providing a special day for those less fortunate.

Thank you to the elves in Eloy Flores’ advisory class for doing their part to make the holidays merry and bright for kids in the Yakima Valley!
