SHS and SMS Students Qualify for National FCCLA Event!

After competing at last week’s Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) State Conference, Selah High School and Middle School students are putting on mouse ears, and headed to the “Happiest Place in the World” this summer in Orlando at the national event.

After representing the Viking Chapter at the state conference, 13 high school and middle school students are advancing to nationals.  Qualifying from Selah High School individually is Parker CaseyMax EismannMiley MaybeeClare Richards, and the teams of Gigi Gamache and Sophia Tyrrell, and Ellie Henson and Cece Escamilla.  Representing Selah Middle School as individual participants are Olivia EismannMelissa FalconAddyson Gamache, and the team of Sarah Richards and Zoe Fonfara

In all, 20 Selah students participated at the state event.  The entire Viking contingent earned the top two prizes of either a gold or silver medal.  Additional Selah winners included high school participants Maury FalconChloe MyersMya NelsonLeah RichardsSadie Smith and Ally Simmons, while Natalie Brink represented the middle school.   

In addition, presiding over the state conference as President and leading a team of 16 fellow officers was Parker Casey.  Also, Parker received the WA-FCCLA Scholarship in an award ceremony which will help him attend Washington State University, where he will pursue a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences Education.  Additionally, at the conference Max Eismann and Leah Richards ran for state officer positions, where as part of their campaign they had to film a commercial, participate in an interview, take a knowledge-based test, give a two-minute speech and answer fact and opinion questions.  Leah Richards was elected to the position of Vice President of Competitive Events.
