SHS Students Selected as Board Representatives!
Two Selah High School juniors are set for service as they were seated at last night’s school board meeting as the new student representatives on the District's Board of Directors.
Through an application and interview process, Aliana Barajas and Mirian Carlson, have been selected as the new student members on the Board’s panel. Aliana and Mirian join senior representatives, Charlee Miller and Clare Richards, as the Board’s student leaders.
In addition to their school and community involvement in a variety of activities, the incoming student representatives have specific reasons why they want to serve the Board.
Regarding her service to the Board, Aliana wants to serve the Board to help give students a voice in the decisions affecting Selah schools. Aliana believes it is important for the Board to hear directly from students and through her different experiences help strengthen the connections between students and district leaders.
In her role as a representative to the Board, Mirian wants to gain more experience in leadership positions. Also, having attended both public and private schools, Marian wants to contribute her various experiences and insights to benefit the district.
The role of the high school representatives is to provide student insight and perspective to the Board of Directors and District administration. Student representatives began serving on the Selah School Board in 2010.
