SHS Student Wins State Award!

As we enjoy the hot temperatures of the summer break, we still have some sizzling student news to share!

Congratulations to Abundio Camarillo Mendoza for being selected as the recipient of the Migrant Student of the Year Award for the 2023-2024 school year.  The honor is presented by the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) as part of the Washington State Title I, Part C, Migrant Education Program.  The award recognizes migrant students who have demonstrated exceptional dedication throughout the school year, and a determination to overcome obstacles and reach educational goals as a model for others.

In celebration of the honor, Abundio, who will be a junior in the fall, will receive a $1,000 scholarship and be honored for his achievement with a plaque at the 2024 Art of Belonging Migrant and Arts Programs State Conference to be held in August.

Congratulations Abundio!  The Selah School District is proud of you!
