SHS Student Named Semi-Finalist for National FCCLA Award!

Selah High School senior, Parker Casey is used to being in the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) spotlight.  Now, that spotlight is beaming even brighter!

Congratulations to Parker, as the national FCCLA organization has announced he has been selected as one of 15 semi-finalists for the prestigious 2024-2025 FCCLA Member of the Year Award, sponsored by the U.S. Army. This national recognition highlights Parker’s exceptional leadership, dedication to service, and commitment to student advocacy within FCCLA.

As the Washington FCCLA State President, Parker has played a pivotal role in guiding and representing FCCLA Members. He also serves as a member of the Washington FCCLA Board of Directors, ensuring that student voices are at the forefront of the organization’s decision-making processes. Also, Parker’s leadership has contributed to strengthening FCCLA’s presence in Washington through innovative initiatives and student engagement.

Parker has also demonstrated excellence in FCCLA Competitive Events, earning a Gold Medal in the Review Display category at the Washington State Leadership Conference, and placing 11th nationally at the National Leadership Conference. He has also achieved first place nationally in the #TeachFCS Skill Demonstration Event, where he promoted Family and Consumer Sciences education to fellow students as a potential career path.

Outside of FCCLA, Parker is involved in student leadership and finance. He serves as the Executive Treasurer for the Selah High School ASB, managing budgets and ensuring financial stability for student organizations and athletics. Also, he holds leadership roles in National Honor Society and the Selah High School Environmental Club, where he has led efforts to promote sustainability and student engagement.

Parker’s commitment to advocacy also extends to the state level, where he represented FCCLA at the Washington Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) Advocacy Day, speaking with legislators about the importance of career and technical education (CTE) programs. He has also presented at the Washington Association for Career and Technical Education Summer Conference and the Washington Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Educators Conference.

“Parker Casey’s leadership in FCCLA, financial management, and student advocacy is truly exceptional,” said Sandy Spavone, FCCLA CEO. “His ability to represent students at the state level, manage complex financial responsibilities, and advocate for the importance of Family and Consumer Sciences education demonstrates his commitment to empowering his peers and shaping the future of FCCLA.”

The FCCLA Member of the Year winner will be announced at the National Leadership Conference this summer, where the top five finalists will be recognized for their achievements. The top five finalists will be announced in mid-April, with each finalist receiving special recognition at the National Leadership Conference.

Congratulations Parker!
