SHS Student Named National Finalist!
There’s probably a reason Selah High School senior, Parker Casey, has had an extra spring in his step these past couple of weeks. That’s because over spring break, Parker was announced as a top five finalist for the prestigious 2024-2025 Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Member of the Year Award, sponsored by the U.S. Army. Earlier this spring, Parker had been named a national semi-finalist for the award and has since advanced to the final five round. This honor recognizes Parker’s outstanding leadership, service, and dedication to student advocacy within FCCLA.
As the Washington FCCLA State President, Parker plays a vital role in representing students across the State. Parker also serves on the Washington FCCLA Board of Directors, helping to ensure that student perspectives influence organizational decisions. His leadership has strengthened FCCLA’s presence through statewide initiatives and increased student engagement.
During competition, Parker has excelled in FCCLA Competitive Events, earning a Gold Medal in the Chapter in Review Display at the Washington State Leadership Conference and placing 11th nationally. He also achieved first place nationally in the Teach FCS Skill Demonstration Event, promoting Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) as a career path to his peers.
Outside of FCCLA, Parker is the Executive Treasurer for the Selah High School Associated Student Body. He also holds leadership roles in the National Honor Society and the Environmental Club.
Parker’s advocacy work includes representing FCCLA at Washington’s CTSO Advocacy Day, where he met with state legislators to champion career and technical education. He has also presented at professional conferences, including the Washington ACTE Summer Conference and the Washington Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Educators Conference.
The FCCLA Member of the Year will be announced this summer at the National Leadership Conference, where the five finalists will be recognized for their achievements.
Congratulations Parker Casey!
