SHS Basketball Teams Crowned Academic State Champs!

It’s an impressive double slam dunk for Selah High School athletics as both the boys’ and girls’ varsity basketball teams have won the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) Academic State Championships for the 2A classification during the 24-25 season!

The WIAA seasonally honors sports and activity specific high school teams and groups who compile an average GPA (based on a 4.0 scale) of 3.0 or higher. “Distinguished” team awards are presented to teams earning grade points between 3.0 and 3.49. Earning “Outstanding” honors are teams with an average GPA between 3.5 and 4.0. From there, the Academic State Championship is awarded to the teams and groups with the highest average GPA for its specific activity and classification.

In earning the honors, the Lady Viks basketball team showcased their skills in the classroom with an average grade point of 3.920. Equally impressive, the boys’ varsity team showed their academic moves by compiling an average grade point of 3.660. The girls are coached by Ray Navarro, while Jordan Starr is the head coach of the boys’ program. Both teams will be officially honored on March 8, during halftime of the respective boys’ and girls’ 2A championship games.

Congratulations to the Viking Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball Teams!
