Selah Students Power Their Future!
Selah students had the right plan as they accepted the challenge to power their future!
The Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program at Selah High School is the recent recipient of a federal grant, CTE Momentum: Power Your Future Challenge, sponsored by the U.S. Department of education. Selah High School was one of 10 schools nationwide who received the $5,000 grant.
As part of the Power Your Future Challenge, students in the high school’s Grad Launch classes submitted an innovative action plan that would advance the use of clean energy in their schools and communities. The challenge included partnering with fifth grade students from Selah Intermediate School to collaboratively design kinetic energy solutions to power schools.
Students designed a kinetic energy harvesting system that converts everyday student activities into clean power through multiple technologies, including smart backpacks, floor tiles, and playground equipment. The project integrated physical movement captured with digital gamification to create a self-sustaining energy ecosystem while teaching students about renewable energy through hands-on participation.
By participating, teachers and students received hands-on experience envisioning and designing clean energy solutions that can make a real-world impact. The challenge also connected CTE students to the vast career opportunities in clean energy and other vital infrastructure industries.
Career and Technical programs are uniquely positioned to fuel the clean energy workforce of the future. Students gain valuable hands-on skills in construction, manufacturing, engineering, and other trades that align with clean energy careers. The Power Your Future Challenge tapped into CTE students’ knowledge, drive, and creativity to develop real-world solutions that advance clean energy adoption in their communities.
Congratulations students!
