Enjoying the Fruits of Their Labor!

Selah Middle School students enjoyed the fruits of their labor as they celebrated harvest season! Included in the festivities students from the Life Prep and AgXplore classes made homemade apple cider from a 5 generation cider press on loan from Selah Middle School volunteer and Master Gardner Gini Obert's family orchard. Apples were donated by Monson Fruit.

Under the guidance of teachers Julie Rust and Nathalie Haste, as well as greenhouse volunteer Gini Obert and her Master Gardener friends, students quickly got to the core of the project as they were guided through the entire cider making process. Also, in a true farm-to-school example, students and staff enjoyed a feast of Minestrone Soup with vegetables picked straight from the middle school ag garden. In addition, students led visitors on tours of the school’s greenhouse and garden areas, which have been transformed from an original gravel lot to a great space of learning! Definitely a fun event, where students enjoyed the fruits of their labor!
