The Selah Community

Travelers descending Umptanum Ridge on Interstate 82 are immediately captured by the sight of the Yakima Valley lying in the distance. Dropping down from the Ridge, the community in view is Selah, a town spread across the top of the small hills overlooking Yakima‒Central Washington’s largest town. Selah is bounded by two rivers and offers scenic vistas in every direction.

The Selah community has evolved around the fruit industry. Signs of agriculture in the community are evident in both the orchards and fruit processing businesses which embrace the town. Selah is an appealing community which is home to families who enjoy small town life, but work in Yakima.

Selah is a stone’s throw from one of Washington’s most spectacular wilderness regions. Lying near the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, Selah offers residents outdoor pursuits such as hunting, fishing, skiing, hiking, and boating.

Adjoining Selah is Washington’s seventh largest city‒Yakima. Yakima boasts a community college, two major hospitals, an arts council, symphony orchestra, daily newspaper, local media, and numerous shopping and entertainment outlets. Over the hill from Selah to the north is Ellensburg and Central Washington University. In addition, Selah is strategically located an almost equal distance from Spokane, Seattle, and Portland.
