Gender-Inclusive Schools

 The board believes in fostering an educational environment that is safe and free of discrimination for all students, regardless of gender expression, y or gender identity, or sex. To that end, the board recognizes the importance of an inclusive approach toward transgender and gender-expansive students with regard to key terms, communication and the use of names and pronouns, student records, confidential health and education information, communication, restroom and locker room use and accessibility, sports and physical education, dress codes, and other school activities, in order to provide these students with an equal opportunity for learning and achievement.

In accordance with District Policy 3211 and Procedure 3211, all reports of discrimination and/or harassment on the basis of sex, gender identity, or gender expression will be taken seriously and investigated.

If a student feels that they have been subjected to discrimination and/or harassment on the basis of their actual or perceived gender identity or expression, the student should report the incident immediately to a staff member.

At any time, a student or their parent/guardian may submit an informal or formal complaint regarding discrimination. Complaints may be submitted by mail, fax, e-mail or hand-delivery to any district, school or to the district compliance officer responsible for investigating discrimination complaints.

The District Designated Gender-Inclusive Schools Coordinator for District Policy 3211 is:

Chad Quigley
Executive Director for Human Resources
316 W. Naches Ave.
Selah, WA 98942

District Policy 3211 is not intended to prohibit expression of religious, philosophical, or political views, provided that the expression does not substantially disrupt the educational environment. Many behaviors that do not rise to the level of discrimination may still be prohibited by other district policies or building, classroom or program rules.

The District’s prohibition of discrimination and providing for gender inclusive schools shall apply:

  • On school District property at any time;
  • Off school District property at any school activity, function, or event;
  • Off school District property if the actions of the student materially or substantially effect the education process and/or student attendance at school.
